Communication at Pershing

COMMUNICATIONS

As a member of the Pershing community, you will receive information in a variety of ways. One of the hardest transitions from elementary school is that communication to parents seems much less. Teachers and coaches tell their students the information and trust that they do what they're supposed to do. Thankfully, there are many ways to stay in the know!

From Pershing:

The Panda Post

Sent weekly from the PTO. We do our best to gather information across the school to share with you. By registering on this site, you will receive the Panda Post. You can also SIGN UP HERE.

Remind

Some teachers and coaches choose to use Remind for communication and reminders. Look carefully through paper sent home at the beginning of the year and be sure to sign up for the correct class.

DIrectly from the school

Occasionally, Dr. Shetzer or other admins will send emails, callouts, or send letters from their database at school. Go to Powerschool and verify that your information is correct. Even then, some emails can get lost in spam folders. Add Dr. Shetzer's email address to your contacts. sshetzer@houstonisd.org 

PTO Website

Our PTO website is a great way to get information to parents, staff and supporters of Pershing Middle School.

PTO Meetings

All parents and guardians are invited to attend the monthly PTO meetings.  They are held generally on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the library or cafeteria.

To share information with the Pershing community please follow these procedures:

• For parents – forward information to our PTO President or submit online here for approval.
• For staff – forward information to Dr. Shetzer, Pershing Middle School Principal.
• Also e-mail the communication volunteer.

Make sure your Information on PowerSchool is correct.

Text Alerts

Signing up for HISD’s text message alerts is quick and easy. Simply text the word “YES” to 68453 from each cell phone on which you wish to receive text messages. Make sure all your cell phone numbers are registered with the school your child attends.

If you have students in middle or high school, you can also register their cell phone numbers so they can be contacted by the school in case of emergencies. To do this, contact the school and request that your student’s cell phone number be added to the School Information System, and text “yes” to 68453 from your child’s phone.

Deadlines:

Web requests should be made 4 days prior to the required posting date.  

Requests for creating online payment forms should be made 2 weeks prior to the date sales are to begin.

The deadline for submissions to the Pershing Panda Post eNewsletter is every Thursday at 4pm for inclusion into the following week’s e-newsletter.
