MAGNET AUDITION INFORMATION

Should zoned families apply for the magnet?

From our Magnet Coordinator: That is entirely up to the parent, but if the student qualifies, they would have guaranteed placement into the magnet fine arts class, in addition it would be beneficial to the school as we receive extra funding for students who are coded magnet.

As far as zoned student placement into the fine arts classes, this would happen based on their elective choices. When creating schedules our counselors try their very best to schedule students into at least one of their top choices. We are no longer holding “zoned” auditions for all areas, for certain fine arts areas 6th grade students will be placed in level 1 classes and will follow natural progression to move on to level 2 and level 3; coding for our fine arts classes has been changed by the district. We are still having conversations centered on this topic as it won’t be applicable to all areas.
